In 1988 a small group of people who cared about their community and wanted to help vulnerable and disadvantaged children, young people and families, established a small organisation in an Angela St cottage called the Tweed Valley Child Youth and Family Service. Since 1988 the population of Tweed Shire has doubled in size and life in our community has changed in so many ways. We’ve seen a lot of change, but our values and mission are true to our founders and we remain committed to the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and families and supporting the most vulnerable and disadvantaged in our community. Now we are known as The Family Centre and we’ve grown with our community. We now deliver services to Tweed, Byron and Ballina Shire and the Southern Gold Coast residents. Each year The Family Centre works with more than 3000 children, young people and families in our family and youth support services, parenting and relationship course and innovative schools programs.
In 2014 The Family Centre, St Joseph’s Youth Service and Byron Bay Youth House amalgamated to create a stronger and more sustainable organisation with shared values and purpose, and a clear focus on delivering high quality child, youth and family services in the Tweed, Byron and Ballina Shires.
