Courses are run each New South Wales school term both online and face to face in the Ballina, Byron and Tweed Shires.

Young Mums to Be

Wednesdays 17 August – 21 September 2022, 10am–12.30pm

A course for women aged 21 years or under. There will be an information session each week focusing on either pregnancy or parenting. Sessions include practical information, as well as informal time focussing on a creative and nurturing activity alongside informal chats and discussion. Discussion topics include: empower women in choice about healthy relationships, birthing options, bonding, physical changes, nutrition, feeding and trusting your body. We will also have time for relaxation, meditation and fun. 6 x 2.5hour sessions.

Circle of Security Parenting

Thursdays 4 August – 15 September 2022, 10am–12pm

The Circle of Security Parenting course is a parenting course for parents of children 0–5yrs. The course shows parents how secure parent-child relationships can be supported and strengthened. Parents will learn how to understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs, support their child’s ability to manage emotions and enhance the development of their child’s self-esteem. Parents will also learn to honour their own innate wisdom and fulfil their desire for their child to be secure. 7 x 2hour sessions.

Bringing Up Great Kids

Tuesdays 2 August – 6 September 2022, 10.30am–12.30pm

Bringing up Great Kids is a parenting course that promotes and supports respectful, caring and nurturing relationships for children aged 0–12. Parents are encouraged to become more reflective and mindful in their parenting approach. The group involves fun and interactive activities that includes key learnings of brain development, attachment theory, self-care and other useful parenting strategies. 6 x 2hour sessions.

No Scaredy Cats

Tuesdays 16 August – 30 August 2022, 10am–12.30pm

A course to support parents and caregivers to reduce anxiety and build resilience in children aged 2–12 years old. The course will cover how anxiety develops, how parents/caregivers can take a preventative role in the development of anxiety problems, and how parents/caregivers can support children to develop skills to reduce anxiety and build resilience. 3 x 2.5hour sessions

Triple P Parenting

Wednesdays 10 August –31 August 2022, 10am–12pm

4-week parenting course for parents/carers of children 2–12 years. Assists parents/carers to build positive relationships with their children and create a stable, supportive and harmonious family. The course introduces proven methods to encourage behaviour you would like more of from your children and deal positively and consistently with problem behaviour. 4 x 2hour sessions.

Parenting Seminar – Online

20 July 2022, 5pm–7pm

This is an introductory 2 hour seminar, providing an overview of The Family Centre’s parenting programs including Bringing Up Great Kids, Circle of Security Parenting, 123 Magic & Emotion Coaching; Triple P; based on decades of research for children aged 0–12 years. This seminar explores how to identify children’s emotional needs, respond to their behaviours & strengthen parent/child relationships. 1 x 2hour session.

Online for residents of Ballina, Byron and Tweed Shires.

Tuning into Teens

Tuesdays 9 August – 13 September 2022, 5.30pm–7.30pm

A course for parents/carers of teenagers 12–17 year olds. Tuning in to Teens aims to help you and your adolescent manage the many emotional challenges of this stage of life. We will explore how to manage your own and your adolescent’s emotions in ways that support you to remain close and keep communicating. 

By learning these skills, you are less likely to have as much conflict within your family and your teen is more likely to talk to you about the challenging issues they face. 6 x 2hour sessions.

Family Centre Playgroups

Find connection with other parents/carers and children while learning and playing together.

Access to useful information regarding parenting, local services and activities.

Anger and Emotional Intelligence

Self Esteem for Women

Tuesday 13 September 2022, 9.30am–3pm

A course that assists women to identify their needs and feelings so they can communicate more effectively. We explore the tensions arising from setting boundaries and using assertiveness in managing conflict, how to communicate respectively, and negotiate different people’s perspectives. We explore skills for repairing after conflict, and the importance of self- care. 4 x 2hour sessions.
