A year like no other...
 

Welcome to our November Newsletter as we rapidly hurdle toward the end of a year like no other.

The Coronavirus pandemic has had a profound impact on so many aspects of our lives. It’s difficult to come to terms with how deeply this has affected so many children, young people and families in our community. 

Thankfully, we know our community is strong and resilient, and the signs are already positive that we’re building back steadily together.

The Family Centre celebrated 33 years of providing service to our community at our recent Annual General Meeting.

A big thank you to our staff and volunteers for the extraordinary contribution they make to the lives of the children, young people, families and communities they work with. Equally we thank our funding partners, corporate and philanthropic sponsors, supporters, local organisations and individuals who make an invaluable contribution to the work of The Family Centre.

THE FAMILY CENTRE ANNUAL REPORT 
 

The Family Centre’s Disability Services team can support you with Plan management and Support Coordination services.

The Family Centre Plan Management Team supports you to effectively manage your NDIS plan. Your Plan Manager will support you by liaising with providers, manage budgets and pay invoices on your behalf. Our Plan managers work with you to determine the best approach to maximise the benefits of your NDIS plan.

The Family Centre Support Coordination Team supports you to build the skills you need to understand, implement and utilise your plan. Our Support Coordinators will work with you to ensure a mix of supports are used to increase your capacity to maintain relationships, manage service delivery tasks, live more independently and increase participation in your community.

Reconciliation Action Plan 2021–2023

The Family Centre recently completed our 2nd Reconciliation Action Plan.

We are committed to working together to contribute to the creation of a just, equitable and reconciled Australia.
Our vision for reconciliation is for the recognition and celebration of the diverse cultures, practices and rights of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the achievement of equality in life circumstances. In the process of reconciling we acknowledge the costs to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of sharing this land. We will
boldly challenge beliefs and attitudes that perpetuate the effects of the history of European settlement.
Our commitment will be lived in all aspects of our organisation and through the services we provide for children young people and families.
OUR RAP
 

After an extraordinarily generous response from our community last year, The Family Centre is again looking to support over 300 local families, children and young people with our Adopt a Family for Christmas campaign. 

We see first-hand the difference these donations make to families who are often struggling to make ends meet at this time of year.

We Need You… Gift Wrapping Volunteers 

We are seeking volunteers to assist us in our annual Gift Wrapping Fundraiser at Tweed Mall. Gift Wrapping forms one of our major fundraising drives with all proceeds going towards Youth Homelessness Projects.

Make a difference to a young person – Home Starter Packs 
 

The Rotary Club of Mount Warning have jumped onboard to support our Home Starter Packs for young people. Each Home Starter Pack is valued at over $500 and they include all the essentials of setting up a house – kitchen utensils, cookware, appliances, linen and cleaning goods. The Home Starter Packs are gifted to young people in our Connecting Home Program when they have successfully transitioned from supported accommodation to their first independent rental accommodation. The Rotary Club of Mount Warning have donated four Home Starter Packs since April this year.

Seagulls Feeding our Community 
 

Seagulls wrapped up their feed the community project at the end of October which The campaign ran 3 days a week for 10 weeks. Over 4500 meals were distributed to our community by our Family Centre volunteers and Seagull staff.

Thank you to Seagulls who rallied together at a difficult time in their daily operations and made this project a success.

Staff Profile – Ally Martin 

If you come into our Amber Road Office, you will be greeted by Ally on reception.

Ally joined our Admin team in May this year as an Administration Trainee. The traineeship is completed over 2 years and requires her to complete a Certificate 4 in Business through training group Novaskills. Each week Ally is allocated 3 hours to study and catch up with her trainers online.

Joining the Admin team is Ally’s first full time job, and she has already proven to be an asset to the team. Ally said she likes working on reception meeting all different people. She also has a keen interest in the finance area of administration and is planning on doing further study after she finishes her Certificate in Business.

Ally grew up in the Tweed graduating from Tweed River High in 2020. She is a keen netball player and has represented Tweed Netball Association. On the weekends she likes to take her dog Rory for walks on the beach.
